Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentists basically specialize in the oral care of children from birth age to adolescence. Pediatric dentistry is a bit more complex and requires the dentist to go through two or perhaps three more years of doctoral training.

During post-doctoral training, Pediatric dentists are given an insight about the psychology of children.

What is a Pediatric Dentist?

Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.

Children fall down or hit very frequently. As a result, they might face problems due to which they will be disturbed throughout their lives. Especially in case of sports such as boxing, football, basketball, skiing, cycling, surfing, skateboard, roller blades, etc. children are under risk. The silicon transparent mouth guard to be attached on the upper maxilla teeth will prevent tongue-lip biting and ruptures and protect the teeth by acting as a pillow.

As a result of impact;

If the anterior teeth are completely protruded: Put the teeth inside the milk, if this is not possible, keep it inside the mouth in saliva and consult the physician as soon as possible. Do not dry the teeth. The ideal application is to start treatment within 30 minutes. If conditions are suitable, your dentist will place the teeth and start necessary treatment.
If one or more of anterior teeth are broken: Try to find the broken pieces and consult your dentist. Keep the pieces humid in the meanwhile. Serum physiology, milk and even saliva is ideal for this purpose. Such pieces can be attached with very strong bonding agents. If you can’t find the pieces: If the broken piece is too small, a white filling can be performed. If the fracture is too much, then laminated veneer or crowns can be an option for those older than 17 years of age. However, in case of younger children, such applications will not be suitable as they haven’t completed their maxilla and teeth development. It should be waited to complete the growth by restoring the broken part temporarily until the child grows up. If there is no problem after the impact: There should be detailed examination by the dentist and x-ray images should be obtained. Even if there is no finding, the child should be kept under control against possible complications and x-ray images should be obtained at regular intervals
